XLVets Skillnet are hosting a "Understanding the basics of dentistry for Veterinary Nurses" event on Thursday 11th April 2024. This one-day session aims to help build nurses’ confidence in conducting dental consultations, enabling them to recognise common dental disease and post operative healing/abnormalities. The participants will learn about periodontal therapy and how to take and interpret intra-oral radiographs. Additionally, we will practice sharpening of instruments and how to take care of dental tools and equipment.
The course is targeted at both experienced and new veterinary nurses who wish to gain more confidence on how to approach COHATs and dental treatment in first opinion practice.

– Be more confident on how to approach COHATs and dental treatment in first opinion practice
– Learn how to take and interpret intra-oral radiographs
– Learn how to scale, probe and fill in a dental chart
Nora Schwitzer PhD, GP Cert (SADen&OS), MRCVS Advanced Practitioner
Nora graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon from the Ludwig University, Munich in Germany in 2003. After a PhD in lemur ecology in Madagascar, Nora worked in several small animal first opinion practices in the UK until she moved to Ireland in 2020.
Nora has always had a passion for veterinary dentistry and over her fifteen years in practice has worked hard at building a portfolio allowing her to become an expert in veterinary dentistry. This experience has allowed Nora to provide a first opinion service for veterinary dentistry in dogs, cats, and zoo animals for the last four years.
In 2021, she passed the GP and Advance practitioner certificate in dentistry and oral facial surgery course (SADen&OS).
