Programme overview
This course will focus on reviewing the regional anatomy, common diseases encountered and different surgical treatments available and is aimed at the advanced practitioner. This is a 2-day course, with theory on day one followed up with a practical on day two.
Over these two sessions, trainer Ciarán Jones will cover the following; liver disease and management, gallbladder disease including gallbladder mucocele, management of bile duct peritonitis, pancreatectomy- insulinoma and partial pancreatectomy.

Learning objectives:
On completion of this course delegates will;
- Be more comfortable with the regional anatomy of the liver, gall bladder and pancreas
- Understand the different liver biopsy options and techniques and become proficient in all
- Learn more about liver mass resection using the TA stabler
- Have a deeper understanding of liver biopsy options and techniques
- Gain a better knowledge of gall bladder biopsy and culture technique
- Learn and practice how to perform a cholecystectomy surgery including flushing of the common bile duct
- Learn about choledochal stenting as an effective treatment for bile duct obstructions
- Practice surgery techniques including pancreatic biopsy and partial pancreatectomy
About our Speaker:
Ciarán Jones MVB, MS, Dipl. ECVS, Dipl. ACVS, MRCVS, European Diplomate Small Animal Surgery, American Diplomate Small Animal Surgery
Ciarán obtained his veterinary degree at University College Dublin in 2014 and completed a small animal rotating internship at Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan in 2015. Following his internship year, he moved to Washington State University where he completed a three year ACVS surgical residency and masters programme and was awarded numerous scholarships including for teaching and for his research in exercise science.
Ciarán became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgery (DACVS) in Small Animal Surgery and a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgery (DECVS) in Small Animal Surgery in 2019. Ciaran has worked as a specialist surgeon in North America, the UK and Ireland and currently works at MyVet Referrals, Dublin.
Ciarán has a particular interest in arthroscopy, minimally invasive techniques, fracture repair and spinal surgery. Outside of work, he is passionate about rugby, tennis, golf, and travelling with friends and family.
