XLVets Skillnet are hosting a "Canine Otitis – A Practical Workshop for Vets & Nurses" event on Thursday 16th January 2025. This half-day workshop is designed to equip veterinary professionals (Vets and Nurses) with the knowledge and practical skills required to diagnose and manage canine otitis effectively and ensure better outcomes for your patients. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the causes, symptoms, and investigative techniques for otitis, alongside hands-on experience with diagnostic tools and case discussions.

Target Audience: This event is open to both vets and nurses. We can accommodate a max of 20 delegates.

14:00     Presentation on Mometamax Ultra
– Oonagh Fitzgibbon from MSD will provide an overview of Mometamax Ultra, including its use and benefits in the treatment of otitis in dogs
14:00     Understanding Otitis: Causes, Symptoms, and Investigation
– Darragh will discuss the various causes of canine otitis, common symptoms to look for and how to investigate these conditions effectively.
15:00     Practical Session with Microscopes
– A hands-on practical session focusing on slide preparation and microscopic examination. Learn staining techniques and how to identify key markers in otitis cases.
16:00     Case Studies & Discussion
Case studies and a discussion surrounding different ear cleaners and treatment options. Gain insights from real-life examples and best practices.
16:45     Q&A– We will finish the session with an open Q&A, where you can ask questions and get expert advice from Darragh and the MSD team.
17:00     End of session 

Microscopes will be provided but attendees are also welcome to bring their own as well.

Trainer:

Darragh O’Hanlon MVB MRCVS CertAVP(VD)
Darragh is a veterinary dermatologist – an advanced practitioner having studied dermatology for many years.  Darragh enjoys tackling challenging ear disease, using advanced video otoendoscopy where necessary.  Outside of helping companion, production, and exotic animals with skin disease, Darragh provides educational content in order to advance the field of veterinary dermatology.  Darragh accepts dermatology referrals from all over Ireland and currently works at Nutgrove Veterinary Hospital.
